Control Freaks

Few things scare me. I’m not a big fan of heights, and I won’t hang around a snake long enough to find out what kind it is. But one thing does scare me … loss of control.
There was a time in my life I had to control everything. I lived by the saying that if you want something done right, you do it yourself. It allowed me to stay in control (or at least it allowed me to feel I was in control). Looking back I realize every situation I’ve ever needed to control was really just my own fear peeking out — fear of failure or a fear of being embarrased.
I’ve come a long way from where I used to be regarding control. There may have been a person or two who might have even called me a control freak (may still be some who think that way)! I suppose life has a way of showing us how little control we really have. If you’re like me and giving up control isn’t an easy thing, I want you to ask yourself two questions as you start your week. One, are you fun to be around? And two, how do you make people feel when you always need to be in control? And perhaps we need a third question — the most important question of all, are you okay with the answers?
