What Will it Take?

“I hope this next year is the best year ever!” These were the words a friend of mine spoke this past week as we discussed the coming New Year. I agree with his words. I do hope this next year is the best year ever, and I spent some time this morning thinking about his comment. I came to two conclusions.
One, I must determine what will need to occur by this time 365 days from now for me to declare 2014 the best year ever. I’m not a fan of New Year’s Resolutions, but I am a fan of visualizing a time in the future with certain goals having been achieved. Good health, successful relationships, thriving business? My picture for the end of 2014 must be clear or I’ll never know if I’ve arrived one year from now.
Two, I must determine what it will take to make it happen. Although I hope this next year is the best year ever, I have lived just long enough to know that hoping won’t make it happen. Planning and execution will play a much larger role if this next year will be the best year ever. I need to identify what specific steps will be required and create a plan to take those steps, or 2014 will be a year of jumping from one unforeseen circumstance to another.
My wish for you in the New Year is that you don’t allow yourself to hope this next year will be the best year ever. My wish for you is that you take some time to visualize it and create a plan to make it happen. Mostly, my wish is that God blesses you dearly in the New Year!
